Preview on page¶
Preview runs the content you are editing, including unsaved changes, on the live page without publishing it.
How to use it¶
- Walkthroughs: Preview all runs from step one. Preview from here on a step starts there. End preview stops it.
- Other kinds (tip sets, launchers, hotspots, announcements, checklists, resource centres, processes): the shared Preview on page / End preview bar at the top of the editor.
What it does¶
The studio sends preview.play to the service worker, which sends the draft to the tab's player. The service worker retries delivery for up to three seconds, so the player has time to start. Draft documentation links are sent along with the preview so they open.
Preview writes no progress and emits no events, so it does not change what a real visitor sees.
Worked example¶
- Open an announcement draft. Press Preview on page.
- The announcement appears on the active tab. Change the body text in the editor.
- Press End preview, then Preview on page again to see the change.
Gotchas¶
- Preview needs the site granted and the tab loaded. If nothing appears, check the origin permission in Options.
- Preview shows a draft. Publishing is a separate step; a previewed item with Checks errors still cannot be published.
