Hotspots¶
A hotspot is a pulsing beacon on an element. Clicking it opens a small card with a message and optional buttons. Use hotspots to point out a new feature without taking over the page.
Settings¶
| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Anchor | The element, picked on the page |
| Placement | Where the beacon sits relative to the anchor |
| Frequency | once, once-per-version, every-visit, until-completed, manual-only |
| Content | Title and Markdown body |
| Buttons | Up to three, same action set as steps |
A hotspot can also be a step display type inside a walkthrough, with focus none or spotlight.
Worked example¶
- New content, Hotspot. Name it "New export button".
- Pick the Export button.
- Title "Export moved here", body "Reports now export from this menu."
- Frequency
once-per-version. Publish. Bump the version by publishing again when the feature changes.
Gotchas¶
- A hotspot is tied to its anchor. If the locator cannot resolve the element, nothing is drawn.
- In right-to-left pages the beacon placement follows the logical side (covered by the RTL matrix specs).
- A target that is clipped by a scrolling container or covered by a sticky header or fixed footer is treated as not renderable and the hotspot is not drawn.
